5 ACRT Insider Tips for Success When Applying for a Job

When applying for jobs, many ask how they can set themselves apart from other applicants. We consulted our in-house recruiters, and they provided the following insider tips for success.

1. Tailor your resume to the job description
   Look for specific words and desired skills in the job description. If you have the requested experience, add it to your resume and be specific. If the job posting requires certain certifications and you have them, make sure they are on your resume.
2. Proofread, proofread, proofread
   Before you submit your resume, make sure you proof it for spelling and grammar issues. We also recommend having someone else review your resume for not only mistakes but also to ensure all your contact information is correct.
3. Organize your resume
   Make sure your resume makes sense and is easy to read (we really like bullet points). Include each job title you held and the dates you were in those jobs. Bullet-point the job duties for each position. Leave off jobs you held in high school unless that is your most recent employment. If you are established in your career, we don’t need to see every job you’ve ever held but be prepared to explain any gaps in employment or too many jobs.
4. Review the job description
   Review the job description in length. If you are invited for an interview, we recommend you know the position requirements so you can ask job-related questions. Also, research the company; Recruiters want to see that you are just as interested in the company as you are in the position.
5. Don’t be late or slow to respond
   The quickest way to rejection is arriving late to an interview! Recruiters and hiring managers schedule time away from their busy schedules to meet with you (as well as many other candidates). Make sure you are on time and always communicating with your recruiter. If for some reason you are unable to make it to your scheduled meeting, notify your recruiter immediately.
