Key Stories Your Resume Should Tell About You

Key Stories Your Resume Should Tell About You

Your Attention to Detail

Missing items? Poor grammar? Bad spacing? These may seem like small issues, but a resume is usually the first impression that a hiring manager or recruiter has of you. Make sure there are no grammatical, spelling, or alignment errors on your resume. It is important that recruiters can reach out to you quickly. Having a proofreader can help avoid these mistakes.

Your Skills and Passions

A resume should highlight your biggest accomplishments, passions, and skills as they relate to the position that you are applying for. Your resume should be tailored to each job that you are applying for. This will allow you to show the hiring manager or recruiter that you have the skills and/or experience to do the job. Think about all your biggest accomplishments and highlight these on your resume.

Your Experience

Recruiters and hiring managers are almost always looking for your experience to determine if you meet the qualifications for the role. List your experience in chronological order. Frame your experience in a way that relates to the role that you are applying for. Keep the bullets point under each job concise and relevant to the role you are trying to land.

Your Goals

If you are looking to enter a new field or jump into a different career, be sure to include an objective or a cover letter to highlight all the transferrable skills that you have obtained while expressing your interest in this new field or role.

Your Contact Information

Recruiters or hiring managers don’t want to search for your contact information. Make sure that your email and phone number are up to date and listed at the top of your resume. Verify that your voicemail is not full and is set up to receive messages in case someone from the hiring team is trying to reach out. Regularly check and follow up on emails, as well. You can even include a link to your professional portfolio or LinkedIn profile if that applies to your field.
