Ryan Meccage is a graduate of Montana State University with a major in Rangeland Science. When he moved to Pennsylvania with his wife in 2019, he wasn’t sure how his experience in rangeland vegetation management would apply since there aren’t large rangelands in the eastern U.S.
Meccage started at ACRT as a consulting utility forester. “When I began, I didn’t know that utility vegetation management (UVM) would become a career path. It has since become my calling. I’ve learned not to be afraid of change and to be eager to adapt. I’ve learned that the sum total of my life experiences brought me to where I am today. I feel a sense of purpose and responsibility to be part of helping to protect the grid and our way of life”
When an opportunity to join the business development team at ACRT Services became available, he could see how his education, work as an environmental consultant, experience running a small business, working as a sales rep, and interest in technology and problem-solving had prepared him for the next step in his career.
Meccage excels at working on new contracts and seeking out new opportunities. “I enjoy my time on the road to visit customers and meet potential new customers at trade shows. I can relate to the people working in the field for our utility customers. One of my proudest moments as a utility forester was when I was successful in calming down an angry homeowner who didn’t want us on his land. In the end, he understood the work that was needed for his safety and the infrastructure. I know this happens every day in this industry, but I felt purpose in that moment.”
ACRT Services has been an ideal place to put his skills to use. Meccage has made significant contributions to serving utilities with environmental services, metering services and damage prevention, and utility vegetation management. “Since 2005, all my life experiences have been leading up to this moment and everything just fell into place. I feel like this industry chose me.”
